This week I will travel to Bali, Indonesia to lead Australia’s delegation to the G20 Tourism and Agriculture Ministerial Meetings.
As a friend and partner of Indonesia, Australia is committed to working closely with partners to support its G20 Presidency.
At the G20 Tourism Ministerial Meeting, I look forward to advancing Australia’s tourism agenda as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and work toward economic recovery. The COVID-19 pandemic had an unprecedented impact on the global tourism sector.
Although international borders have largely reopened, there are ongoing challenges to tourism recovery globally. I look forward to working with G20 Tourism Ministers to progress the policy agenda Indonesia has put forward to support recovery of this crucial industry.
I welcome the opportunity to share the experiences of the Australian tourism industry with my G20 counterparts, including our THRIVE 2030 long-term strategy which will underpin our recovery.
I look forward to learning from the innovations of others in our collective effort to boost confidence and sustain growth and prosperity in international tourism.
The G20 Agriculture Ministerial Meeting will focus on the challenge of global food insecurity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, changing weather conditions and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Maintaining free and open, transparent and predictable agricultural trade is vital to curtailing global food prices. This facilitates improvements in sustainable agricultural production and greater food security, especially for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable.
I will reaffirm Australia’s support for Indonesia’s response to their Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak and outlining our strong response to prevent the further spread of the disease.
I will also reinforce the importance of investment in climate-smart agriculture to drive long-term sustainable growth and build climate resilience.
Agriculture has a key role in global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and I look forward to sharing Australia’s innovation and expertise in sustainable production systems.
Australia supports Indonesia’s strong focus on trade this year and I look forward to sharing and learning from the experiences of my G20 counterparts.
