Visit to Myanmar

Minister for Foreign Affairs Senator the Hon Marise Payne

I will visit Myanmar on 12 and 13 December to meet with senior government ministers, including State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.

Australia is committed to working with Myanmar and regional and other partners towards a long-term and durable solution to the crisis in Rakhine State. Australia has previously raised our serious concerns in relation to the situation in Rakhine State, including the outcomes and recommendations of the United Nations Fact Finding Mission.

While in Myanmar I will meet with Government ministers and international humanitarian partners, and I will discuss Australia's contribution to supporting the basic needs of the 129,000 internally displaced Rohingya.

As partners in the Indo-Pacific, Australia and Myanmar have a longstanding relationship, including on regional priorities through ASEAN and the East Asia Summit.
