Volunteer Spotlight - Kath Smith - East Gippsland

This National Volunteer Week, we're celebrating the people who help keep our small communities connected, active and thriving.

Wednesday 20 May was Wear Orange Wednesday, when we spotlight the incredible SES volunteers who give their time, skills and care to support communities through emergencies and natural disasters.

Among them is our Manager of Community Resilience and Emergency Management, Kath Smith, who volunteers with VicSES alongside her role at Council.

"I like to support community outside of work as well and use all my years of training and experience as a paid Emergency Service worker to support volunteers and communities wherever VicSES may send me. Remote communities depend so much on volunteers, emergency service agencies would be lost without them."

Thank you to Kath (who also volunteers across a range of other community and sporting organisations), and to every SES volunteer, for the vital role you play in keeping communities safe.
