Voting is now open for the $10,000 projects as part of Surf Coast Shire's Climate Emergency Grants. The funding pool of $20,000 will be split between one $10,000 grant and two $5,000 grants. Voting is only required for the $10,000 grant.
The Climate Emergency Grants program is a chance for the community to partner with Council to enable initiatives aimed at addressing climate change locally.
Community members can vote for their favourite project, and the project with the most votes will be successful for the $10,000 grant.
"We know our community is passionate about climate action and it shows with the calibre of projects that have been submitted," said Cr Adrian Schonfelder.
"And now it's over to the community who can show their support by voting for their favourite project."
The two projects are:
- Project 1: Geelong Sustainability Group and Common Ground Project partnering with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation to deliver local community sessions empowering the community to become active stewards in our shared climate future.
- Project 2: Common Ground Project partnering with Winchelsea Primary School to enable all students to learn about regenerative gardening at Common Ground and use this knowledge to create sustainable gardens at school and home.
"Council is proud to support community-led initiatives through this grant program," Cr Schonfelder said.
"We know locals play an important role in climate action, and these grants enable people to deliver community-led and community-focused programs."
These grants fund local initiatives that enact Goal 5 of Council's Climate Emergency Response Plan to 'empower community-led responses to the climate emergency'.
The funding pool of $20,000 will be split between one $10,000 grant and two $5,000 grants. Voting is only required for the $10,000 grant.
Voting closes on Tuesday 10 June.
The successful grants will be announced on Friday 13 June.
