A West Australian man is scheduled to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today (15 August, 2025) charged with allegedly breaching a security restricted area at Perth Airport.
The AFP charged the man, 21, on 2 August, 2025, after he allegedly activated a 'break glass' alarm to open a door inside a domestic terminal and enter a restricted area known as 'airside'.
The man allegedly entered the secure area for a short time, before he returned to the baggage claim hall.
Perth Airport security alerted the AFP, and officers quickly located the man at a security screening checkpoint.
He was charged with one count of entering an airside area or airside security zone of a security-controlled airport without permission, contrary to subsection 3.17(2) of the Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005 (Cth).
This offence carries a maximum penalty of $15,650.
The man first appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on 2 August, 2025.
AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Aviation John Whitehead said Perth Airport's secure areas were clearly marked and closely monitored at all times so people did not enter restricted areas without authorisation.
"Airside restrictions exist to ensure the safety and security of the travelling public and workers," Det a/Supt Whitehead said.
"If you choose to ignore the warnings and enter an airside security zone without permission, you will potentially face prosecution."
