WA, NSW Get New, Upgraded Heavy Vehicle Rest Areas

Six projects will receive a total of $10 million in Australian Government funding under the latest tranche of the Heavy Vehicle Rest Area (HVRA) initiative.

The projects include new rest stops with facilities such as showers, toilets, lighting and expanding parking bays to accommodate more heavy vehicles.

The funded projects are:

  • Design and upgrade of the Halfway Tree Rest Area on Cobb Highway, NSW
  • Design and upgrade of the Narromine Heavy Vehicle Rest Area, NSW
  • Upgrade to the Rocky Gully Heavy Vehicle Rest Area, WA
  • New rest area to be built at Calingiri, WA
  • Addition of 8 new truck parking bays and upgrade to solar power facilities at the Cranbrook Heavy Vehicle Rest Area, WA
  • New heavy vehicle rest area to be built on the Eyre Highway at Mundrabilla, WA.

Heavy vehicle rest areas provide truck drivers with essential facilities so they can take a break from driving.

Through the HVRA initiative, state, territory and local governments can apply for funding to build or upgrade heavy vehicle rest areas.

The next tranche of applications opens on 1 December 2025 and closes on 30 April 2026.
