WA Schools Get Grants to Divert Waste From Landfill

  • More than $112,000 awarded to 29 schools under WasteSorted Schools grants program
  • Schools can apply for funding towards waste management infrastructure projects that divert waste from landfill
  • Program has funded more than $3 million to 588 schools in its 22-year history

Western Australian schools are being supported to tackle waste and boost sustainability through the WasteSorted Schools grants program, with up to $5,500 available per school for waste-reduction projects that also engage and educate the school community

In the latest round, 29 accredited WasteSorted schools received funding for projects including waste sorting stations, recycling signage, composting, worm farming, and Containers for Change collection points.

As stated by the Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn:

"I encourage schools to apply for this funding to inspire and educate the next generation about the importance of choosing to do better than the bin."
