- WA communities join millions around the world to celebrate Chinese New Year
- McGowan Government supports events with $42,000
Celebrations will be held across the State as Western Australians, of all backgrounds, ring in Chinese New Year and welcome the Year of the Pig.
The Chinese Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, falls on February 5 this year with festivities happening from February 2 and continuing for the duration of the month.
Chinese New Year is an important time for Western Australia's significant Chinese communities originating from China, Malaysia, Singapore and other parts of the world who will be marking the occasion, with people travelling from around the world to spend time with families and prepare for the year ahead.
The McGowan Government is once again supporting several major festivals through the Office of Multicultural Interests' Community Grants Program and Lotterywest including:
- Bunbury's Chinese New Year Festival on Saturday February 2;
- Chung Wah's Perth Chinese New Year Fair on Sunday February 10; and
- The Harmonious New Year celebration on Sunday March 17.
