Today I joined Hydro Tasmania representatives and community members to officially unveil upgrades to the Waddamana Power Station Heritage Site.
These staged upgrades will be a drawcard for the Central Highlands providing a memorable experience for visitors.
Following the recent fires that affected the area, attractions like this will help bring visitors back to the area, supporting local businesses and jobs.
Guided by new interpretive signs, visitors can tour the original turbine hall experiencing Tasmania's first large scale power scheme in all its glory.
This refurbished attraction complements the Highlands Power Trail, a self-drive journey through the Great Lake Power Scheme, launched in 2017.
These upgrades are well timed given the Central Highlands area is set for an influx of visitors later this year with the World Fly Fishing Championships held in November/December.
The 2019 World Fly Fishing Championships will put Tasmania's Central Highlands on show to the rest of the world, with three of five events held across this magnificent region.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to working with local communities and ensuring that all Tasmanians can share in the benefit of a strong economy and tourism boom, and we are on track to achieve our target for 70% of all visitors to stay overnight in regional areas during their trip to Tasmania by 2022.
