Major works on the Watson Street Interchange Upgrade in Wallan are now expected to finish by mid-2027, six months earlier than planned.
The project, delivered by Victoria's Big Build, is more than halfway complete.
Nearby, major works on the Northern Highway Intersection Upgrade will also finish by the end of 2026, six months ahead of schedule.
What's being built at Watson Street?
The upgrade will turn the Watson Street interchange on the Hume Freeway into a full diamond interchange. It includes:
- a new Wallan exit ramp
- a new city-bound entry ramp
- new traffic lights on both sides of the Watson Street bridge
- improved walking and cycling connections along Watson Street.
Why is the Northern Highway intersection being finished first?
Finishing this upgrade first will prepare the intersection for changed traffic movements when the new Watson Street freeway ramps open in 2027.
Where can I get updates?
Victoria's Big Build is delivering both projects. Visit Big Build for project updates and enquiries.
