Wanted Man Charged After Kempsey High-Speed Chase

A man has been charged with four outstanding warrants after an alleged high-speed pursuit on the state's Mid North Coast yesterday.

About 12.40pm yesterday (Monday 23 March 2026), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop a Holden hatchback travelling along the Pacific Highway, Clybucca, about 20km northeast of Kempsey.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, the Holden allegedly reached speeds of 180km/h in a 110km/h speed zone before road spikes were successfully deployed.

A short time later, the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

About 12.40pm the hatchback stopped on the Pacific Highway, South Kempsey, where the driver allegedly ran from the scene into nearby bushland.

After a foot pursuit, the man – aged 31 – was arrested and taken to Kempsey Police Station.

During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly located and seized several small bags of methylamphetamine and cannabis which will undergo forensic examination.

The man was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, possess prohibited drug (two counts).

He was also charged by virtue of four outstanding warrants for driving, traffic and domestic violence related offences.

Police will allege in court the Queensland man has never held a driving licence in any Australian state or territory.

The 31-year-old was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 1 today (Tuesday 24 March 2026).
