A man has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting two women in Sydney's Inner West.
A public appeal for assistance was made to locate a 29-year-old man, wanted on an arrest warrant after two women reported to police that they'd been sexually assaulted.
About 9.25am (Tuesday 28 July 2020), the man attended Surry Hills Police Station, where he was taken into custody.
Officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command allege the man sexually assaulted two women on separate occasions at a home in Glebe last year after meeting them via a dating application.
The man, from Glebe, has been charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent.
He has been refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Tuesday 28 July 2020).
Superintendent Alf Sergi, Leichhardt Police Area Commander said police will thoroughly investigate all reports of sexual abuse.
"Not all people want to report incidents of sexual assault, but if you have been a victim or a witness to any form of sexual violence, we urge you to come forward as we cannot investigate what we are unaware of," Supt Sergi said.
"Consent is a primary factor in every sexual assault, whether it be in an established relationship, a person you connected with on social media, or a complete stranger.
"Without consent, a person's rights are violated, and a crime is being committed,"
"While dating apps /sites feature in few sexual assaults reported to police, our experience with the online environment tells us that the anonymity of the Internet would provide opportunity for sexual predators."
"The messaging about 'consent' is as equally consistent with dating apps as it is with any interaction that may potentially lead to sexual encounters. How you meet isn't as relevant as the behaviour in person," Supt Sergi said.
