War Policy Undersecretary Colby Visits India

U.S. Department of Defense

Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby concluded his visit to India, where he met with senior officials to advance key elements of the 2026 National Defense Strategy and the President's Peace through Strength agenda.

While in India, Under Secretary Colby met with Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Under Secretary Colby also co-chaired the U.S.-India Defense Policy Group meeting with Indian Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. These discussions advanced the Framework for the U.S.-India Major Defense Partnership that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth signed with Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in October 2025. The Framework calls for the United States and India to expand operational coordination; information sharing; regional and global cooperation; and defense industrial, science, and technology cooperation. His visit also included consultations with Ambassador Sergio Gor, U.S. Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

Under Secretary Colby also delivered remarks in New Delhi at the Ananta Centre, where he emphasized the durability of the India-U.S. partnership and laid out a framework to help guide the two nations' defense and strategic cooperation.
