Wardrobe Reckoning - Proper Dressing Down

Nathan Ladmore says

Nathan Ladmore says November is the perfect time for Eurobodalla residents to spring-clean wardrobes and linen closets with free textile-recycling events.

The Eurobodalla Council waste services manager says there will be five drop-off events across the shire: from 8am to 12pm on Wednesday 12 and Saturday 15 November at both Surf Beach and Brou Waste Facilities, or 9am to 1pm on Saturday 15 only at the Moruya Transfer Station.

Mr Ladmore says collected textiles will be sorted for reuse or recycling to give materials a second life and reduce landfill.

"We ran similar events in 2023 that were extremely popular, with 6.2 tonnes of textiles dropped in just six hours," Mr Ladmore says.

"Please bring only clean and dry textiles. Things such as clothes, shoes, towels, sheets and doona covers. However, we can't take doonas, pillows, wool or acrylics items, waterproof mattress protectors, furniture, electric blankets, and certainly nothing dirty or wet."

The textile drop-offs are part of National Recycling Week and are a collaboration between Council, RRR Australia and Canberra Region Joint Organisation. Other recycling-themed activities include pop-up stalls hosted by Council and waste contractor Cleanaway with information on battery recycling.

"It's so important to keep household batteries out of kerbside bins. Batteries can, and do, spark fires in trucks and at waste facilities," Mr Ladmore says.

"Cleanaway in partnership with Council will share practical tips on safe battery disposal and answer your battery recycling question at pop-ups from 10am to 1.30pm on Thursday 13 November at Batemans Bay Village Centre and Friday 14 November at Narooma Plaza, and from 8am to 1pm on Saturday 15 November at Moruya Markets.

"Of course, used batteries can be dropped off year-round at Council's administration building in Moruya, all waste facilities, at the libraries, and at participating businesses' B-cycle drop-off points.
