Warialda Men's Golf – 18.7.21

After being closed for the last two weeks due to the weekly Thursday rain events, Royal Warialda was declared open on the weekend for an 18-hole Individual Stableford. A good field of local golfers turned out along with four Inverell golfers due to their current course closure. One of the Inverell golfers, Jason Pomfrett, took a very good liking to the course to record 36 points and collect the winner's voucher.

Runner-up was Matt Cleal, with his first round back after being away from the game for a little while, on 35 points. The ball run-down went to another Inverell player, Aaron Coleman, and Craig Lockhart (both on 34), Wade Turner with 33, Charlie Cush on 32, Tom Kilner with 30 points with the last ball going to Dave Smith, with 29 on a countback.

Pin shots were won by Matt Cleal on the third, Tom Kilner on the fifth and the ninth. The all-important Rabobank sponsored mystery ball went to Steve Power.

In 4BBB Matchplay results Charlie Cush and Wade Turner defeated Dave Smith and John McDonald.

Next Sunday's event is the rescheduled July Monthly Mug with sponsorship from Wayne and Joanne Reading and Regional Australia Bank. The weekend after, Warialda's Mixed Open will be held on Saturday 31 July and the Men's Open on Sunday 1 August.

This week's 'some old, some new, but all funny and true!' quote is from English golfer Horace G. Hutchinson: "If profanity had any influence on the flight of the ball, the game of golf would be played far better than it is."
