Warm Weather, Light Rain Expected in Some Areas

That's a public holiday down in Victoria.

Around the country on Friday, we're not looking at much severe weather, aside from the chance of maybe some severe storms over inland Western Australia to develop in the afternoon.

But even though most places are not expecting any severe or extreme weather, there's still a chance of a little bit of rainfall for quite a lot of Australians tomorrow, with patchy wet weather in a number of areas including coastal Queensland, parts of Victoria and Tasmania, and even the southern coasts of South Australia and Western Australia.

So because of that, let's go state by state and lock in on those details.

Starting in Queensland for Friday, another day of onshore winds blowing from the ocean onto the land, bringing cloudy skies, humidity and a few showers to our eastern coastal districts. For Friday, most of the rainfall will be around the Central Coast, the Capricornia and the Wide Bay and Burnett, where we could see double-digit totals between 10 mm and 20 mm. Just the odd passing shower in other eastern districts. For inland parts of the state, it is warm, sunny and dry with high fire danger.

Really warm day forecast for New South Wales. In fact, in parts of the south and west we could be pushing towards record temperatures, 30 °C plus through much of the Riverina and lower western districts. Wagga seeing 30 °C, Broken Hill 33 °C, Canberra a fairly warm 26 °C afternoon as well. Not quite as warm for many on the East Coast, but still well above the average for the time of year, 26 °C and sunny in Sydney, and Newcastle, a touch warmer at 29 °C.

Mild temperatures are expected across Victoria for the public holiday. That'll go with a mix of sunshine and cloud through the morning, but tending cloudier as the day progresses. There will be some scattered light rain initially. That'll just be in the far south-west around the Warrnambool area and across to the South Australian border. But once we get into the afternoon, chance of a little bit of wet weather spreads through central districts as well into the likes of Melbourne. There's even the outside chance of a storm around Melbourne or parts of the north-east ranges, but the storm risk looks to be fairly low. Temperatures are warm, mid 20s for many and even into the low or mid 30s up around Mildura.

Quite a cloudy Friday for Tasmania. There will be some scattered rain around as well. The rain will mostly be in the west of the state, but at times we could see a touch of rain across our northern coastline. A touch of rain in the south-east as well, mostly morning or early afternoon, tending drier for the second half of the day. The overall amount of wet weather won't be a lot, perhaps 2 mm to 5 mm for a number of our rain gauges. Temperatures pretty mild, including around Hobart, with a high of 21 °C.

A touch of morning rain around the coasts of South Australia from the Eyre Peninsula down to Mount Gambier. That will clear up pretty early in the day, so, for some people it might have already cleared up before you even get out of bed. And then we're tending to dry weather for the remainder of Friday. Temperatures are pretty mild almost everywhere. It's a little cool around Mount Gambier at 19 °C. Otherwise, we're looking mid 20s along southern-facing coastlines, and some parts of the north and north-east are really, really warm, 35 °C to 37 °C in some areas, well above the average for the time of year.

Out in the west, we've got quite a lot of wet weather to the east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Now we might see some rain or a storm around Kalgoorlie itself, but most of the activity will be inland and south of there, where we will see some quite widespread storms get going in the afternoon. Potential for some heavy rain, damaging wind or even large hail. We could also see some decent rainfall totals accumulate between Eucla and Albany on the south coast, perhaps 20 mm or 30 mm, maybe even more in a few areas. Further west from Bunbury up to Geraldton, including around Perth, it starts off fairly mild, but a change in the wind will knock those temperatures down in the second half of the day. Some gusty southerlies coming through in the afternoon. Those temperatures will fall to perhaps 16 °C to 18 °C there, and it's fairly warm and sunny across the north-west of the state.

And through northern Australia. We've got some humid conditions around the Gulf Coast. We've got a few showers around the Gulf Coast as well. It's pretty dry everywhere else. There's just the outside chance of a storm across the north and western coast of the Top End, and maybe around parts of the Kimberley as well, but it's really going to be low rainfall. Most people along those coastlines expecting dry weather and temperatures are sitting in the 30s across the board.
