Warning about phone scam impersonating Council

Council is reminding residents not to disclose personal details over the phone to unknown callers after being made aware of a scam telephone survey seeking to gather residents' personal and banking details.

Council has received reports from a number of residents, including elderly residents, who have been contacted by someone claiming to be doing a survey on behalf of the City of Casey.

The caller typically asks a series of personal questions, including the branch where your bank account is held. We would never ask for banking details as part of any survey we are undertaking.

We urge residents to conduct the appropriate security checks when someone calls claiming to be from Council or working on Council's behalf. Ask for their full name, company name and postal address. You can also ask to return their call and phone Casey on 9705 5200.

Remember, if in doubt: don't answer

  • don't send money or give bank details
  • don't click on any links
  • don't tell people your passwords
  • don't let someone take control of your computer.
