Water Police rescue Eden residents

In the early hours of yesterday, Water Police rescued a number of people trapped at the Naval Wharf, Two Fold Bay near Eden.

Members from Victoria Police's Water Police had been in New South Wales to assist their counterparts due to the bushfires.

About 2.30am, Water Police officers responded to a call from help from 10 local residents who had sought cover from the bushfires.

Weather conditions were extremely poor with low visibility and the area being under heavy ember attack from nearby fires.

With the assistance of thermal imaging cameras, Water Police managed to safely dock its vessel at the wharf to rescue the residents as well as a dog.

They were taken to a nearby wharf where they were able to seek shelter from the fires.

On the same night, members from Water Police also woke up half a dozen people staying on vessels to notify them of the ember attack and ensure they were safe.

Victoria Police will continue to provide ongoing assistance and rescue efforts to those impacted by the bushfires.
