Water police would like to remind boaties to stay safe on the water

Brisbane water police would like to remind boaties to plan for the worst when you are out on the water, Queensland Police say.

Officers were called to an incident this afternoon after a 33-foot catamaran with four people on board capsized between Green Island and Moreton Island at around 1.30pm.

One of the people on the vessel was able to use a phone to contact authorities and officers have recovered all four of them at 2.15pm.

The boat has been recovered and it is believed that a strong gust of wind caused the vessel to capsize.

Water police would like to take this opportunity to remind boaties of a few basic safety tips to make sure they stay safe when out on the water.

• Always wear a personal flotation device, even if you are an experienced boaty
• Advise someone where you are going and when you plan to return
• Check the weather conditions carefully before you leave
• Plan for the worst case scenario and ensure that all your safety equipment is in good order and has been tested
