Wayville clinic leading SA's vaccine scale up

The mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Wayville Showgrounds is leading the way in getting vaccine doses in the arms of South Australians, delivering more than 13,000 doses in its first three weeks of operation.

Vaccination numbers at the clinic continue to increase week on week, delivering 6594 doses of the vaccine last week, up from 4119 the previous week and 2730 in the clinic's first week of operation.

More than 265,000 vaccinations have now been delivered in South Australia.

Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade said that South Australia continues to deliver the fastest rollout of any mainland state and that vaccinations would scale up further in the coming days.

"Giving all South Australians access to COVID-19 vaccine is a vital part of the Marshall Liberal Government's plan to keep South Australia safe and strong in response to the pandemic," said Minister Wade.

"We continue to deliver the most vaccinations per capita of any mainland state, and we thank all South Australians who have stepped forward and rolled up their sleeve to get vaccinated.

"The strong numbers delivered in the first three weeks of operation at the Wayville mass clinic is very encouraging, and our rollout is set to steadily increase as we open another mass clinic at Noarlunga tomorrow and the Elizabeth mass clinic on Monday 31 May.

"The majority of South Australians will receive their vaccination through their GP, and we are supporting that with the redistribution of 30,000 vaccines to our GP networks to further bolster the rollout to people 50 years and over.

"I thank the teams in our GP networks and our community clinics for their hard work in supporting our safe, steady scale up of the vaccine rollout.

"We encourage all South Australians to roll up their sleeve and get vaccinated when it's their turn."

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout across South Australia will be undertaken in line with the Commonwealth Government's Vaccine Roadmap.
