Weapons, Drugs Seized in Cairns Traffic Stop

Officers from Cairns Station have charged a 41-year-old man after he was allegedly located driving unlicenced and under the influence of drugs in Cairns City this morning, June 24.

Around 4am, police intercepted the man driving a Holden Commodore on Hartley Street.

He was given a roadside drug test which allegedly returned a positive result.

During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly located 16 knives including an axe, a quantity of cannabis and suspected stolen jewellery.

Police also located a lighter in the shape of a firearm.

A 41-year-old man from Holloways Beach was arrested and charged with one count of possess dangerous drugs, possess knife in a public place, unlicenced driving, driving with a relevant drug present in his blood or saliva and unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, June 24.
