Police have recovered a firearm and bladed weapons as part of ongoing operations to maintain public safety at transportation hubs throughout the Brisbane Region.
Under Operation Yankee Course, Railway Squad officers worked alongside colleagues across South East Queensland to detect weapons and prevent assaults, property crime and other anti-social behaviour on the bus and ferry networks.
Officers undertaking wanding deployments seized a fully functional .22 calibre credit card gun from a 35-year-old South Ripley man at Chermside bus interchange on Sunday 20 September.
He has been charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a short firearm in public, possessing dangerous drugs, and possess utensils or pipes for use.
The man was due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday, 22 September.
During operations around Cleveland public transport hubs, police recovered a large kitchen knife and an axe from a backpack allegedly carried by a 13-year-old boy on Friday 18 September.
He will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
Acting Senior Sergeant Shayne Treasure, Transit Tactician QPS Railway Squad, says these two highlighted results demonstrate the Queensland Police Service's commitment to maintaining safety at public transports hubs and the specialist support provided to compliment Operation Yankee Forge.
"We will continue to deploy our teams anywhere and at any time. Every passenger deserves to be able to travel free of concern," says Acting Senior Sergeant Treasure.
"Being proactive on the buses, trams, trains and ferries reassures the public and puts the law breakers on notice."
