General Weather/Safety Messages
- The Bureau has forecast more rainfall and storms on the Gold Coast throughout the evening.
- They are predicting a slow moving band of heavy showers and thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall.
· The City is on standby with personnel ready to respond to any safety issues around the city.
· We also continue to monitor a possible swell event predicted for our beaches in coming days.
· Our beach crews with heavy machinery are in place to respond as necessary.
· The following beaches were closed to swimming today: Elkhorn Ave, Staghorn Ave, Narrowneck, North Narrowneck, Seaway South, Seaway North.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that during heavy rain and storms people should:
- Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded forget it.
- Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
- Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
- Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
- For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
Beach Messages
- A number of beaches may be closed in coming days due to strong swells, king tides and tidal surges
- Late today five beaches were closed - Breaker st, North and South Narrowneck, Elkhorn Ave, and Staghorn Ave.
