WOMEN OF THE GOLDFIELDS
You're invited to celebrate the launch of Central Goldfields Art Gallery's new exhibition, Calico Ceilings - Women of the Goldfields, Paintings by Linda Gallus.
Over the past 18 months, Gallus immersed herself in family histories and the stories of the Central Goldfields in that era, exploring the lives, fears and struggles of its pioneering women. One inspiration was a relative of hers who raised 12 children in the rugged – and often dangerous conditions in the diggings.
Gallus also draws on Calico Ceilings: The Women of Eureka, a book of poetry by Susan Kruss.
The series of paintings shed fresh light on the resilience, hardship, and dreams of the women who endured a harsh and unforgiving landscape.
The exhibition will be officially opened at 2pm, this Saturday 11 October, by Central Goldfields Shire Deputy Mayor Cr Ben Green, with guest speaker Susan Fayad, World Heritage and Regional Development Lead, City of Ballarat.
Bookings are not required and entry is free. The exhibition will be on display until February 2026.
BOUNCING INTO ACTION
A major court redevelopment is now underway at the Maryborough Tennis Centre.
The project will deliver five new synthetic grass courts to replace the existing middle bank of grass courts.
This $523,000 project is jointly funded thanks to $400,000 from the Victorian Government, $71,700 from Council, a $20,000 contribution from the Maryborough Tennis Centre and a $31,300 National Court Rebate.
The courts will be constructed by Tuff Turf and the fencing works will be delivered by RNCO.CO.
The new courts are set to be completed by early 2026.
