Sport Integrity Australia acknowledges the decision of Australian Weightlifting Federation Ltd (AWF) to impose an additional four-year ban on athlete Brendan Southwick for breaching his period of ineligibility.
It was determined that Mr Southwick breached his initial period of ineligibility (from 20 June 2017 to 19 June 2021) by providing coaching, training and/or ongoing support to an athlete who competes in the sports of BMX and weightlifting.
A condition of his original sanction was that Mr Southwick was not able to participate in any capacity in a competition or activity (which includes coaching) during his period of ineligibility.
The AWF imposed a new period of ineligibility of four years on Mr Southwick, commencing on 20 June 2021.
Mr Southwick is ineligible to return to competition until 20 June 2025 and is also not permitted to compete in a non-signatory professional league, or event organised by a non-signatory International or National level event organisation.
