Older Tasmanian golf club members have made the most of a popular government program helping ease the costs associated with sport and active recreation.
The Ticket to Wellbeing program offers eligible Tasmanians aged 65 and over a $100 voucher to spend towards the cost of a sport and active recreation registration.
Acting Minister for Sport, Gavin Pearce, said the program is helping Tasmanians stay active and connected.
"The Tasmanian Government committed $1 million over two years to trial the Ticket to Wellbeing program, and it has been a great success," Minister Pearce said.
"Across the two-year trial, more than 9,500 older Tasmanians received a voucher to use towards their sport and active recreation membership.
"The latest Ticket to Wellbeing round opened in February, with 2,500 vouchers getting snapped up in under two days."
Golf has been the biggest redeemer of vouchers across the two-year trial, with over 3500 vouchers currently redeemed from more than 50 golf clubs.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said Riverside Golf Club was one of the biggest recipients.
"Riverside Golf Club redeemed over 140 vouchers for the 2024-25 round," Minister Palmer said.
"It is fantastic to see one of the many golf clubs whose members are benefiting from the program.
"Our Government is delivering for Tasmania, with the strong demand showing how beneficial Ticket to Wellbeing is to help Tasmanians stay active and connected.
"We want sport and active recreation to be more accessible to Tasmanians, allowing them to continue playing the sport they love. The Ticket to Wellbeing delivers just that."
Due to the program's overwhelming success, it be extended until 30 June 2028.
Voucher holders have until 5 June 2026 to use their 2025-26 voucher with an approved activity provider.
