The final touches will soon be added to the Wellington Street upgrade between Watson Street and Duke Street in Wallan.
The last electrical works are scheduled to begin Tuesday 2 September. These works are expected to take two days to complete. Once complete, the new streetlights will be switched on to improve safety and visibility for all road users.
From Monday 8 September, the contractor will be back on site to finish the last concrete crossover, line-mark pedestrian crossings and repair sewer manholes at the intersection of Wellington Street and Watson Street. These works are anticipated to take two weeks.
Traffic management will be in place to keep workers and the community safe. Minor delays are expected.
Earlier stages of the project have already delivered new kerb and channel, upgraded footpaths, improved drainage, resurfaced road pavement and safer pedestrian crossings.
Together, these works are creating a safer and more accessible road corridor for drivers, pedestrians and the Wallan community.
The $3 million project was delivered by Mitchell Shire Council with funding support from the Australian Government's $11 million Macedon and Mitchell Shire Roads project, which allocated $5.5 million towards the Wellington Street and Darraweit Road upgrades. Mitchell Shire Council has also contributed $200,000 to the works.
