Mitchell Shire Council is advising the community that Wellington Street will be closed on Thursday 25 March until Friday 26 March to finalise the transformation from Watson Street to Queen Street.
The road rehabilitation and indent car park works were to the road and parking for residents and workers in the area alike.
The project is making a significant impact on the rehabilitation of Wallan's road network and footpath infrastructure.
Appropriate traffic management arrangements are in place. While there may be some minor delays, traffic will soon be able to move through the area from both sides of Wellington Street. Council reminds drivers to follow traffic instructions for their safety and visitors to the area.
The $1.156 million project is part of the Wallan Town Centre Revitalisation Project which is fully funded by the Victorian Government's Regional Development Victoria (RDV).
Works to start on Windham Street, Wallan soon
Windham Street, between William and King Streets, is set to go under a transformation to support safer movement through the area as part of Council's $620,000 works.
Community safety is a feature of these upgrades with the new infrastructure designed to ensure pedestrians are safe to travel through the area and will ensure vehicles abide by the speed limit.
The works include:
- New footpaths installed on both sides of the road, between William and King Streets, to ensure pedestrian safety and access.
- New kerbs and drainage to reduce water runoff into properties during heavy downpours
- Intersection improvements and speed cushions will be installed to reduce speeds along the road
- Reinstatement of road sections, nature strips, and line marking
The works, which are likely to begin in the first week of April, will be the first stage of Windham Street works.
The work zone will be reduced to 40km during construction. The north-bound lane will be closed with a detour established along Bentick Street. While there may be some minor delays, traffic will still be able to move through the area.
