Welshpool serious crash 5 July

Canning Police are seeking information regarding a serious crash in Welshpool this morning, Saturday 4 July 2020.

Just after 4:00am Police on patrol on Leach Highway attempted to stop a Honda motorcycle which was believed to be stolen. The rider initially stopped, however when the officers exited their vehicle it will be alleged the rider accelerated away, crossing to the wrong side of Leach Highway.

The officers did not continue to intercept the motorcycle and a short time later heard a loud crash further up the road.

The officers attended the crash scene and established the motorcycle had collided head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The car and motorcycle both caught fire.

St John Ambulance and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene.

The motorcycle rider, who is believed to be a 37-year-old man, appeared to have two broken legs and was taken to hospital under police guard.

The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 30's, was not seriously injured.
