
Have you seen the uptick in lycra and athletes around Wollongong?
From today, more than 5,000 athletes and supporters will be in Wollongong for the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals.
And we're already spotting some enthusiastic runners, swimmers and cyclists hitting the streets of Wollongong's CBD in preparation for the event which is the crown jewel of World Triathlon's annual calendar.
"This is a really exciting time for Wollongong and what people are telling me is that they're seeing more athletes on our city streets and at the beach,'' Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown said.
"There's no doubt, that this level of energy and interest contributes to the overall atmosphere and excitement around this fantastic event that will being aspiring athletes, their supporters and families to our city.''
With the event running from 15 to 19 October, there are a whole range of events for people to check out.
Here are some of our recommended highlights
Day 1: Wednesday 15 October
- 5-7pm, the Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremony in Lang Park, Wollongong
Day 2: Thursday 16 October
- Age-Group Standard Distance World Championships from 7.45am - 12.50pm
- Age-Group Standard Aquabike Championships from 10am - 12.40pm
- U23 Championships : Men from 1.15pm - 3.25pm and Women from 4.15pm - 6.30pm
Day 3: Friday 17 October
- Age-Group Sprint Distance World Championships from 8am - 12.55pm
- Junior Championships : Men from 2.15pm - 3.25pm and Women from 4.15pm - 5.30pm
Day 4: Saturday 18 October
- Para Mixed Team Championships from 7.30am - 11.30am
- Junior and U23 Mixed Relay Championship from 12.15pm - 1.45pm
- Rock N Run community event from 7.30pm - 8.30pm
Day 5: Sunday 19 October
- Para Mixed Teams Relay from 8am - 9.30am
- Age Group Mixed Relay Championship from 10.30am - 1.45pm
- Elite Championship Finals : Women from 2pm - 4.10pm and Men from 5pm - 7pm
- Closing ceremony in Lang Park from 8pm - 10pm.
