Western Sydney Housing, Productivity Needs Highlighted

Western Sydney Regional Director Ross Grove said the elevated prioritisation of the Tallawong to St Marys rail link was an important outcome for connectivity and growth in Western Sydney.

"The Tallawong to St Marys rail connection is about improved transport connectivity, new homes, and urban renewal. It improves access to jobs, supports housing delivery along the corridor, and helps ensure the rail network keeps pace with population growth," Mr Grove said.

Mr Grove said the project had been a key NSW Budget ask from the Property Council, particularly in the context of recent Commonwealth funding decisions.

"While the Bradfield to Leppington corridor has received early funding for land acquisition, the equal standing given to Tallawong to St Marys highlights the importance of balancing future rail investment across Western Sydney," he said.

The Property Council also welcomed prioritisation of further work toward a fuel pipeline connection to Western Sydney International Airport, alongside the continued recognition of nationally significant freight infrastructure supporting the region.

"Fuel pipelines are about productivity and freight. Western Sydney plays a critical role in supporting the supply chains of a growing metropolis, and improving the way fuel is moved across the city is central to that task," Mr Grove said.

"A fuel pipeline connection to the airport creates the opportunity for a future multi‑pipeline corridor, leaving the door open to piping truck and passenger vehicle fuel into Western Sydney and reducing reliance on fuel tanker movements across Sydney, delivering productivity, safety, cost, and congestion benefits.

Mr Grove said the Property Council would continue to push for infrastructure that unlocks new homes and jobs across Western Sydney, noting that today's prioritisation was an important step, but more work remained.

"As growth continues to move south and west, drawing closer to a clear funding strategy for roads and water in Wollondilly and the Greater Macarthur will be essential. These areas represent Western Sydney's next greenfield growth frontier, and getting the enabling infrastructure right will be critical to delivering new homes and supporting employment over time," Mr Grove said.
