Much-needed upgrades to Weston Bears Park, turning it into one of the region's premier sporting facilities, have been officially unveiled.

The sportsground on Government Road received a multi-million-dollar revamp, including refurbishment of the existing grandstand to incorporate a new clubroom, canteen, office, and members' space, as well as construction of new team changerooms, referee facilities, and a gym.

New spectator amenities and improved accessibility, as well as a new carpark and associated landscaping, were also part of the project.

The works - which improve comfort, functionality, and safety for players, spectators, and the wider community - were made possible by a $3 million grant from the Australian Government's Growing Regions Program.

Established in 1907, Weston Bears FC is one of Australia's most historic football clubs and is currently represented in the Northern NSW division of the men's National Premier League.

Cessnock City Mayor Daniel Watton thanked contractor Connex Management and Construction for delivering the outstanding facility, and the Federal Government for its significant contribution to the project.

"This project has breathed new life into the home of one of our LGA's proudest sporting organisations, creating a first-class venue that also opens the door for other opportunities such as visits from top-flight teams looking to bring a fixture to a regional area," said Clr Watton.

"Importantly, the facility will provide a platform for future growth at the club and enable Weston Bears to better support its female player base."

Federal Member for Hunter and Special Envoy for Men's Health Dan Repacholi MP said the upgrade is a huge win for local sport and the Weston community, made possible by a $3 million investment from the Australian Government.

"The Weston Bears are a proud part of our region's sporting history, and I'm really pleased the Australian Government could contribute $3 million to help deliver this fantastic upgrade through the Growing Regions Program," said Mr Repacholi.

"This investment is about backing local clubs with the facilities they need to support players, volunteers and families now and into the future. These upgrades will make Weston Bears Park a safer, more inclusive and accessible place for the whole community to come together and enjoy sport.

"We know that getting involved in local sport is great for both physical and mental health, especially for young blokes, so having quality facilities like this right here in Weston makes a real difference. It's also fantastic to see these improvements helping the club grow its women's and girls' teams and ensure more locals can get involved in the game."
