Australian Industry Group has described the Victorian State Government's announcement on its 'work from home' legislation as "political gameplaying which will have reverberations across the economy and on employment in Victoria".
"The Government is playing games with Victorians and especially with Victorian employers. They are dragging out announcements all this week about a single piece of legislation," said Australian Industry Group Victorian Head, Tim Piper.
"Today it's about exemptions in the legislation, but when will the public know how they intend to make this legislation work and its timing?
"The intent of the legislation and the way the Government is announcing it suggests political opportunism.
"It will cost Victorian jobs and impact on the Victorian economy.
"We still don't know if the Government has the power to invoke the legislation or whether it will be challenged federally, but what we do know is that it's a cynical exercise aimed squarely at the state election in November.
"And the Government seems unfazed by the burden on business, the 'us and them' approach this will create and the fact that unions have already said they will push for extra pay because some people have to attend work.
"The State Government would be much better showing support for local businesses rather than treating them in this manner and removing this important employment flexibility," Mr Piper said.
