WFP Comments on Solle Helicopter Incident

WFP
Dakar, Senegal: On 12 August, a WFP-chartered helicopter landed in Solle, north-west Burkina Faso, to deliver humanitarian cargo.

Shortly after landing, an explosion occurred nearby. One crew member and one government partner sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical care. The helicopter received minor damage but was safely relocated away from Solle.

The incident is under investigation, and air operations to Solle are temporarily suspended.

WFP's humanitarian air operations are critical for delivering life-saving assistance to hard-to-reach communities most in need.

In conflict-affected regions of Burkina Faso, WFP plans to reach 315,000 of the most vulnerable people during the lean season (June-August) when families' food stocks are exhausted.

WFP reaffirms its unwavering commitment to support populations in need and to reach the most remote communities with humanitarian assistance.
