What you need to know for New Year's Eve

Our annual New Year's Eve celebration at Belmore Basin is one of the City's most popular, family-friendly events with people coming from across the Illawarra to join in the festivities. That's why we're making sure that Acorn Lawyers' New Year's Eve is a safe and fun event for everyone.

"It's important to remember as you have fun that this event is alcohol-free, glass-free and smoke free and just like last year, there will be Police and security onsite to make sure that everyone can enjoy a safe environment," Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

This year's celebrations will kick off at 5pm on Monday 31 December with live music, roaming circus performers, amusement rides, food and novelty stores along the popular foreshore area and a spectacular firework show at 9pm.

"There's sure to be a lot of noise and excitement down along the foreshore so make sure that you keep your pets safe and secure at home. Even the best behaved pooch might find the fireworks a bit too exciting."

Wollongong Police District Commander, Detective A/Superintendent Kevin McNeil said safety will be the top priority for police throughout the New Year celebrations.

"Our officers will be focused on the safe movement of crowds around Wollongong, as well as curbing anti-social behaviours and alcohol-related crime, to ensure everyone can ring in 2019 safely," A/Supt McNeil said.

"The key to a great New Year's Eve is to act responsibly and know your limits. Think before you drink – don't ruin 2019 before it even starts," he added.
