Where's Michael Ferguson?

Tasmanian Labor
  • Failed leadership contender nowhere to be seen
  • Absence signals instability and disunity
  • What role for Ferguson in new cabinet?
  • If the Liberals want to claim party unity, they're failing to walk the talk.

Labor Member for Braddon Shane Broad said as the new Premier faces the public, the loser in the leadership fight is nowhere to be seen.

"Michael Ferguson has been dodging the media since he realised he had failed to secure enough votes to claim the Liberal leadership.

"He hasn't appeared alongside Peter Gutwein, and hasn't spoken on his own behalf about why he withdrew from the leadership fight.

"If the Liberals are trying to present a picture of unity, they're failing dismally.

"The Premier and Deputy are out today with Elise Archer - the other half of Michael Ferguson's failed leadership team. Nobody knows where Michael Ferguson is."

Dr Broad said the winners and losers and the dirty deals done will become clear when Peter Gutwein unveils his cabinet this week.

"The question is what role Michael Ferguson will play in Peter Gutwein's government, having challenged him for the leadership.

"Michael Ferguson is a failed health minister, a failing infrastructure minister, and a failed contender for the top job. What reward will he get for being part of airing the deep divisions in the Liberal party?

"His absence suggests anything but stability and loyalty in Liberal ranks."
