Wilful Damage And Stealing Charges, Bracken Ridge

Police have arrested a juvenile in relation to a small explosion in Bracken Ridge today, 28 December.

About 1.30pm Police were called to a shopping centre in Barrett Street following reports of a loud explosion in the public toilets, causing the fire sprinkler to activate.

Upon arrival Police located a small, improvised device which had been detonated causing minor damage.

Noone was physically injured as a result of the explosion.

About 5 pm Police attended a Bracken Ridge address and located a 12-year-old boy who was taken into custody in relation to the explosion.

The juvenile was charged with one count of enter premises with intent, one count of damaging premises by explosion and one count of stealing, relating to the items used to make the device.

The juvenile is expected to appear in the Brisbane Childrens Court on 9 January 2026.

The incident was not terror related and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
