Will next Labor leader please stand up

Michael Ferguson, Deputy Premier

Labor's leadership wars are on full display with David O'Byrne re-entering the race of leadership contenders for Tasmanian Labor.

The leadership contrast couldn't be starker with the one-time Labor Leader displaying the leadership qualities Ms White seems to be lacking.

On ABC Mornings yesterday, former Labor leader David O'Byrne said… "I think there's a responsibility to allow the Parliament to function. People don't want constant elections and constant chaos."

Mr O'Byrne is right. Tasmanians don't want chaos.

They want their elected representatives to get on with the job of doing things that matter.

Mr O'Byrne went on to explain his reasons for taking the high road in the Tasmanian Parliament this week, saying "but I think I've got a responsibility to the people of Franklin and people of Tasmania to act in a responsible way and not try to, to wreck Parliament."

These are statements that Ms White would have trouble agreeing with, as Tasmanian Labor continue to display contempt for the Parliament, wasting its time with political stunts that achieve nothing.

Just last week, Ms White stood by the business community, pretending to be an advocate of stability and certainty.

Yet just days later Mr Winter – the third entrant to the race of 'who's the next Labor leader' – was out telling Tasmanians how ready he is for an election and how Labor plans to bring on a no-confidence motion.

Mr Winter has regularly been rolling Ms White on leadership decisions, and now Mr O'Byrne is showing her up as a second alternative Leader.

More strange, Ms White's Labor colleagues yesterday stood behind Mr O'Byrne at a press conference, clearly showing the split in the caucus.

While Ms White remains wishy-washy on just about every matter that matters to Tasmanians, Mr O'Byrne is closing in on the race of "Who's the next Labor leader", sitting just slightly behind Mr Winter.

There are many people lining up to take over the leadership, it's just a matter of when.
