Man Charged: Obscene Exposure, Weapons Found in Newcastle

A man will face court later this week following an incident at a Newcastle beach yesterday.

About 9am yesterday (Monday 24 August 2026), police were called to Horseshoe Beach, Newcastle, following reports a man had driven onto the beach before standing naked near his vehicle.

Police attached to Police Transport Command North Central arrived a short time later and saw the man attempting to leave the beach in his vehcile.

The man underwent a roadside drug test that allegedly returned a positive result for cannabis and cocaine.

A secondary oral flud sample was taken and has been sent for further analysis.

During a search of the man's vehicle, officers located and seized 21.56g cannabis, along with 38 knives and an axe.

The 50-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with five offences,

  • Wilful and obscene exposure in public place
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Custody of knife in public place, and
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (two counts).

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 27 August 2026.
