Windows to World launches at Floriade

Windows to the World, a chance to see the world without taking a long-haul flight, is returning to Canberra this October. Launching at Floriade on Saturday 15 October and running across the weekend of 22-23 October, Windows to the World is a rare opportunity to see behind the gates of Canberra's embassies and high commissions.

On Saturday 15 October, head to Floriade and see through the Windows to the World as eight countries showcase their culture and traditions at Commonwealth Park. From 10am, experience traditional dance performances and explore exhibits of traditional clothing and art, and taste local foods and drinks.

Then, on the following weekend 22 and 23 October, go through the gates of more than 20 embassies and high commissions as they open their doors in what will be a wonderful weekend of international experiences right here in Canberra.

Minister for the Arts and Multicultural Affairs Tara Cheyne said this popular event provides an insight into world cultures and celebrates our love for diversity and multiculturalism.

"Windows to the World is a wonderful chance to enjoy the hospitality of other cultures right here in Canberra. In a time where travel isn't yet back to pre-pandemic levels, this event is a great opportunity to experience and explore international food, music, performances and more.

"At Floriade, visitors will get a taste of eight cultures with highlights including Cambodian Chhai Yam Dance performance, Canadian trivia and delicious Arabic and Saudi coffee.

"The following weekend, more than 20 embassies and high commissions, including the Aboriginal Tent Embassy, the Embassy of Mongolia, the Indian High Commission and the Embassy of Peru will open their doors to the public for the first time since 2019.

"This event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Canberra's reputation as a global, connected city with strong international relationships, and enjoy all that multiculturalism has to offer," said Minister Cheyne.

Windows to the World launches at Floriade on Saturday 15 October and continues into Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 October 2022.
