The roundabout at Isabella and Primrose Street intersection in Wingham is about to receive a revamp.
Importantly the road surface will be repaired at the site but there will be a host of work conducted to improve the road strength and reduce ongoing maintenance issues.
The project will involve relocating water pipes, upgrading drainage and rebuilding roads, kerbs and footpaths
The project will also include landscaping and trees, new street lighting and line marking and signs.
MidCoast Council's Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott, said the project goes beyond surface repairs, with extensive works designed to reduce the ongoing maintenance needed at the site.
"This is a section of road that has a history of failing and these works will bring a stop to that," he said.
The roundabout will be closed for the majority of the works. U-turn bays will be installed at both ends for vehicle access. Some parking close to the site will be temporarily closed.
There may be some interruptions for pedestrians when the footpaths are being constructed. Driveway access will remain open to the businesses in the immediate vicinity.
The work is expected to begin on Monday 2 March and be completed in June 2026, weather permitting.
