Work will start on the Wingham Wetlands upgrade from Monday 2 February, delivering long-term water quality, environmental and community benefits for the Manning River catchment.
Located at the corner of Combined and Primrose Streets, Wingham, the wetlands were originally constructed in 1999. The upcoming refurbishment will restore and improve the wetland's original function, while also upgrading the site to better meet current environmental and maintenance standards.
The project will retrofit the existing wetlands to create a more effective and resilient system, improving water quality outcomes, enhancing the surrounding landscape and increasing public amenity for the local community.
Construction is expected to be completed later this year.
The Wingham Wetlands upgrade is an action identified in the Manning River Estuary Coastal Management Program, which aims to improve the health and water quality of the Manning River.
Funding support for the project was provided under the NSW Coastal Management Program.
