Witnesses sought after attempted sexual assault of woman in Caringbah

Police are appealing for witnesses after the attempted sexual assault of a woman in Sydney’s south, NSW Police say.

About 10.20pm yesterday (27 April 2017), a 19-year-old woman was walking in an alleyway which links Willarong Road and Curtis Street, Caringbah, when she was grabbed from behind by a male not known to her.

The woman fell to the ground with the male making attempts to sexually assault her.

She was able to fight the man off and run away, however her handbag was cast aside during the incident and it was left at the scene.

The woman reported the incident to police a short time later.

Officers from Miranda Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

The man has been described as dark skinned, 170-175cm tall, of a solid build, and he was wearing a grey jumper.

Police have identified a small number of witnesses, however are appealing for anyone else with information to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information on the incident to call Crime Stoppers.
