Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was hit by a car near Lake Illawarra this afternoon, NSW Police say.
Just after 3pm today, a 40-year-old woman was driving a green Holden Commodore along Central Road, Unanderra, when she approached the intersection of Staff Road.
At the same time, a 16-year-old boy was crossing the road when the two collided, causing the teenager to hit the front windscreen and fall to the road.
Emergency services were called and the boy was taken to Wollongong Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command attended and commenced investigations.
The driver of the Holden allegedly provided a positive roadside breath test and was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station. She was released pending further inquiries.
As inquiries continue, police are appealing for any witnesses who have not yet come forward to contact Crime Stoppers.
