Witnesses sought after Toorak crash

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man was critically injured following a high-speed crash in Toorak Tuesday night.

Detectives believe there were a number of cars on Toorak Road just prior to the crash at 11.40pm and are appealing for motorists with dashcam to come forward.

Emergency services were called to the single vehicle crash involving a stolen car on Toorak Road, between Power Avenue and Glenferrie Road, after witnesses heard the crash.

Police believe the driver was travelling at high speed when he lost control and struck a concrete divider at a tram stop.

It appears the Jaguar sedan continued on before it became airborne and crashed into a large tree.

As a result, the vehicle split in half and the driver was ejected.

The 28-year-old driver was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Investigating officers believe the vehicle was stolen from a property in Phoenix Street during a suspected aggravated burglary shortly before the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or with dashcam is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.auExternal Link.
