The World Meteorological Organization has announced the winners of its 2026 Calendar Photo Competition, showcasing spectacular images of weather, climate and water phenomena from all over the globe.
The final selection - 13 winners and 13 honorable mentions - was made by a WMO jury composed of communications experts, photographers, and scientists, based on photographic merit, geographic balance and inclusion, meteorological significance, and social media engagement.
The winners include storm clouds, stunning skies and aurora, a volcanic eruption, rivers and waterways, glaciers and mountains, and desert and urban landscapes.
"Many of the photos are simply breathtaking - it was incredibly difficult to choose. We wish everyone was a winner," declared the jury.
There were hundreds of entries from all regions , with WMO Members actively participating in the campaign. Seventy five finalists were promoted on WMO social media channels and displayed at WMO headquarters for WMO staff to have their say.
WMO and its UN partners regularly use photographs from the calendar competition in news stories and web features. The images are also often featured in communications activities by the United Nations Secretary-General's team to illustrate the impacts of climate change and extreme weather.
The winning entries will be featured across our social media platforms (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube) and included in our winners' album on Flickr .
WMO thanks all photographers who participated and everyone who cast their vote on social media.
