Council is excited to be moving forward on plans to deliver new skate parks in Thirroul and Wollongong City Centre for the community to enjoy.
We're currently finalising the documentation to tender for the design and construction of the skate parks. Once an experienced skate park contractor is engaged, targeted design workshops will be conducted with the local community to develop the draft concept design. The contractor's consultation plan, proposed construction methodology and timetable will form part of the tender responses.
The new skate park for MacCabe Park, which is considered a regional-scale skate facility, is anticipated to be in the vicinity of 1,500m2. Construction of a facility of this size and scale in the identified location is not expected to impact or require removal of any trees.
Skate parks at Thirroul and MacCabe Park are currently programmed for construction in the 2026-27 financial year. It is envisaged that the Wollongong City Skate Park will be completed first, followed by Thirroul.
