Wollongong Council Honors Bondi Beach Attack Victims

On Monday 15 December, Wollongong City Council endorsed a Lord Mayoral Minute tabled by the Lord Mayor of Wollongong, Councillor Tania Brown, that acknowledged the tragic loss of life as a result of Sunday's terrorist attack at Bondi Beach.

Council extends its condolences to the victims, their families and loved ones, and to the Jewish community. We offer our support and stand in solidarity with our local Jewish community in Wollongong at this very sad time.

Following endorsement of the Lord Mayoral Minute , Council will write to the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies and Waverley Council to express its condolences and support for the communities directly impacted by this terrorist attack.

Council also offers its thanks to the NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and all first responders, along with the courageous citizens who gave aid to victims and helped apprehend perpetrators.

As a City of Peace, Wollongong stands with all members of our proudly multicultural community as it deals with the impacts of this attack. There is no place for racism or antisemitism in Australia.

In early December Council received a community request to fly the National flag of Israel on one of the eight days of Hanukkah. In response to this request, and in light of the Bondi tragedy, this will occur on 16 December outside Council's administration building.
