Below is the full text of the statement by UniMovies committee chairman Peter Castle
Thanks to the good work of Alf Maccioni, the CEO of UOWPulse, and Paul and Nicola from UniClubs, UniMovies have reached in-principle agreement for UniMovies to join UniClubs. This involved considerable negotiations regarding membership and governance. But, providing the rewritten constitution is approved by UOWPulse, UniMovies will be back in operation by May.
Thank you to all our supporters who have responded to my endless reportage of our attempts to convince UOW that we fitted elsewhere (because we felt the rules for clubs were too rigid to satisfy), only to find that, with some give and take, we have a solution.
I'll report on the restart when we are ready.
For your interest, one of the items of discussion was a determination to encourage more students to get involved. After all, UniClubs are student clubs. To facilitate this, we will be introducing a membership that, while providing a full (voting) membership of UniMovies, will only provide free admission to a smaller number of screenings. At this time, it will be $30 for 10 movies. And the old-style membership with free admission to all screenings will be $70 or $80 for 2019 (down from usual $100, due to the shorter year of screenings).
