Woman arrested in prison car park, SA

A woman will face court for trafficking in a controlled drug after she was located in the car park of a regional prison over the weekend, according to SA Police.

About 9.50am on Saturday 18 August, police stopped a vehicle in the car park of the Port Augusta Prison.

Police drug tested the driver of the car, a 35-year-old Wallaroo man, who returned a positive result to methamphetamine. Drug paraphernalia was also allegedly found in the car and seized. The man was issued with a driver direction not to drive for 24 hours and a drug diversion notice. His drug sample will be sent to Forensic Science SA for further analysis.

The passenger in the car, a 24-year-old Kadina woman, was also stopped and searched by police with the assistance of Correctional Services staff. It will be alleged officer’s located 32 Suboxone strips in her possession, concealed in balloons.

The woman was reported for trafficking in a controlled drug and will be summonsed to appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court at a later date. She also received a barring order from visiting correctional facilities.

Any person located on correctional facilities with illicit drugs or contraband can be banned from entering correctional facilities for up to 12 months.
